The
Horizon mill project will provide a maize mill,
like this one, in Fort Portal. |
|
Fort Portal
This will be Horizon's first entry into the area of
microfinance, bringing sustainable economic growth to
the Fort Portal area. Microfinance is a regional revolving
loan fund that creates jobs through new business ventures.
The first loan of $80,000 will launch
the maize mill project, which will employ up to 18 people
full time. The maize produced by the mill will help
feed the 10,000 orphans who are waiting to be sponsored
through Horizon. Maize from the mill will also be sold
to the general public to help generate income for future
projects in the region. When the loan for the maize
mill is paid off, the money will be recycled for other
loans.

Once the maize mill is completed, the
second microfinance project will be the creation of
a dairy farm. Land has been secured for this development.
This complex will have a dairy farm, an orphans home,
staff quarters and offices, a church, and a medical
clinic.
