Correspondence - Does It Make A Difference?
I am sometimes asked the question, “Does it really make a difference to the children if they receive correspondence from their sponsors?
My answer is always “most definitely!” Many of these children have lost one or both parents. Others live with extended family members, an older sibling or sadly left alone to be cared for by a caregiver in the community.
Can you imagine the delight they feel when they are handed a letter or package from their sponsor that came all the way from America?
As Child Sponsor Coordinator, I have read hundreds of letters from children over the past few years. The expression of gratitude, love and hope these children show for their sponsors really warms my heart.
Recently, I was reading a letter from a precious girl named Lydia. She thanked her sponsor for taking good care of her and “sending her things.” The end of her letter brought tears to my eyes when she said “God bless you and have hope, peace, joy and know that God has a plan for everybody. I love you and I wish that one day I will see you. I’m praying for you, thank you.”
What I didn’t mention about this girl is that she is in very poor health. She is in need of many prayers, yet she is praying for her sponsor.
The hearts of these children are so precious and the comfort they receive from a letter from their sponsor lets them know that someone cares for them and they are not alone.
I wanted to share a group picture I recently received from Zambia taken after the children received their packages. This picture says it all!
