In the long run, we hit only what we aim at.
On Friday, April 1, Horizon’s ambassador choir, the Kuyasa Kids, will arrive at the Washington Dulles International Airport to begin its seventh annual tour of the United States.
The Tour, scheduled from April 1-25, will take place in Maryland, the New York City Metro area, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
The purpose of the Tour is to recruit American child sponsors for African children and youth who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS.
"The Kuyasa Kids Tour," according to Horizon’s President Bob Pearson, "is one of the greatest opportunities we have to expose Americans to the plight of African orphans and to provide them with the help they so need and deserve."*
Earlier this year, Horizon launched its "2011 by 2011" Child Sponsorship Recruitment Campaign. The objective of the Campaign is to sponsor 2,011 African AIDS orphans by December 31, 2011.
At the beginning of the year, Horizon was sponsoring approximately 1,700 kids in South Africa,
Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Factoring in the African teenagers who graduated from the program last December and the loss of child sponsors in any given year, it is estimated that 491 new child sponsors will need to be recruited to reach the 2,011 goal.
So far, during the months of January and February, 75 children have been sponsored.
This is a great beginning. The quality of life for these 75 children will soon be greatly improved with food, clothing, basic health care, and the opportunity to finally enroll in school.
The Kuyasa Kids Tour will soon add to this momentum.
What can you do to enhance this God-given opportunity?
First, you can PRAY.
Pray for the health and well-being of the eighteen South African kids and their adult mentors as they travel from church to church. Ask God to prepare the way into each church family and community as the Choir comes. And pray for receptive people who will feel prompted to sponsor an African orphan.
Second, you can GIVE.
A Tour of this magnitude is very expensive. The total cost of the Tour will be approximately $70,000.
Your donation is specifically needed to help Horizon pay for the four vans that will be used to transport the Choir on the Tour, plus the gas/petrol that will be needed to fuel the vans.
The van rentals for the month will cost $6,400. And you are aware of the rising price of gas/petrol which is estimated to cost $3,000, for a total needed of $9,400.
You can give online, via the Horizon website, www.horizoninternationalinc.com
by going to the third field "Fund/Project" and scrolling down to "Kuyasa Kids Tour".
Thank you for your prayers and your giving.
It really is true that we hit only what we aim at.
Through the Kuyasa Kids Choir Tour, many deserving African children and youth, orphaned by the AIDS pandemic, will receive the help they so desperately need.
