An unused life is an early death.
This is why the Board of Directors of Horizon International has established the University Scholarship Endowment Fund—to give the graduates of our orphan sponsorship ministry an opportunity to live a fulfilling, productive life through the pursuit of university studies or vocational training.
With this end in mind, Horizon is pleased to announce that scholarship endowment gifts totaling $25,500 has been received in the months of April and May. This funding has been added to the corpus of the University Scholarship Endowment Fund and invested for long-term gain.
Each January, Horizon’s Board of Directors awards scholarships totaling 6% of the total value of the Fund to deserving African students.
This year, Horizon was able to award a total of $3,500 (USD).

Two of the recipients of this year’s scholarships are Alijuna Ambrose (left) of Fort Portal, Uganda and Andile Magxalisa (right) of Kayamandi Township, Western Cape Province, South Africa.
Alijuna is in his second year of studies at Mutesa 1 Royal University in Kampala. He is pursuing a two-year certificate in mechanical engineering.
Andile is also in his second year of studies to earn a certificate in Auxiliary Social Work. Upon completion, Andile will qualify to enroll as a sophomore in a reputable four-year South African university where he will work to complete a degree in Social Development.
One of the donors whose siblings gave a gift of $3,000 in honor of their parents said in a recent e-mail, “Thank you for earmarking our donation for the University Scholarship Endowment Fund. I am grateful for the good work the Fund will be able to continue to do in support of the children. My parents would be so very pleased.”
Another couple who gave $20,000 wrote in a card accompanying their check, “We understand our gift will be invested and used for students as they enter college or trade school, and hopefully will be available if and when ‘our’ (sponsored) kids reach that point.”
“Building the corpus of the University Scholarship Endowment Fund continues to be one of Horizon’s top priorities,” says Bob Pearson, Horizon’s President.
“Each year, we are graduating more and more kids from our orphan sponsorship ministry, kids whom we have encouraged to dream. The Fund helps some of these kids to reach for their dreams.”
