A Good Friday Encounter
2010 Kuyasa Kids Tour Report
Good Friday became more than just another day this year for members of the Kuyasa Kids, Horizon’s ambassador choir from Kayamandi Township in South Africa.
The Choir participated in “Carry the Cross”, an annual 12-mile walk sponsored by First Church of God in Monroe City, Indiana.
Walkers assembled in the parking lot of First Church of God in Vincennes at
9 AM. Escorted by local police officers, members of the Monroe City congregation and the Kuyasa Kids took turns carrying a large wooden replica of the cross of Christ.
The event takes place every year to draw attention to the events of Good Friday as recorded in Luke 23:26—“As they led Jesus away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.”
The Kuyasa Kids participated in “Carry the Cross” as part of the Choir’s recent Tour of southern Indiana and southern Ohio.
The Choir comes to the United States each year during its Easter school break to call attention to the “Good Friday” plight of AIDS orphans in Africa and the Easter Sunday morning of hope that comes to them through child sponsorship.
This year, 270 African children were sponsored during the Tour, providing for their survival needs and potentially introducing them to the risen Christ!
