Strategic Orphan Care Property Purchased in Zambia

We can accomplish more in one hour with God than in one lifetime without him.

In early January, several Horizon staff, partners, and friends agreed to pray daily together about the purchase of a strategic plot of land in Chongwe District, Zambia.

A large piece of property, eleven kilometers outside of Chongwe Town on the main road through the
District, had been offered to Horizon Zambia by the Chief of the Soli tribe for a very modest price, but certainly more money than Horizon International could afford at the time.

The land in question would be developed into a regional ministry center for orphan care.

Three obstacles stood in the way.

First, the Chief's generous offer was for a limited time.  Second, the registration of Horizon Zambia as a non-governmental organization had to be completed with the Zambian government.  And third, the remainder of the funding to purchase the property had to be secured.

The Horizon team in Zambia had worked for many months to become registered as an NGO in the country. (Since 2006, Horizon has operated in the country under the umbrella of another NGO).  However, the process was encumbered with delay upon delay that would redefine the meaning behind the phrase, "Africa time".

And the process of registration had to be completed before Horizon Zambia could purchase the Chongwe property.

So, on Monday, January 3, the Horizon intercessory team began to pray that God would remove these obstacles in his way and on his time schedule.

Moses and Cecilia Sakala

Three days later, on Thursday, January 6, Moses Sakala, Horizon Zambia's Regional Coordinator, reported that he had received a call from the NGO department of the Zambian government.  The registration had been approved.  A week later, Sakala received the registration certification in the mail.

Then on Wednesday, January 19, it was learned that NorthView Christian Life Church in Carmel, Indiana would provide the rest of the funding needed to purchase the Chongwe property.

The funding needed for the land surveying, property purchase, and title transfer was wired to Horizon Zambia on February 1.

By the end of the month the land had been surveyed, the property had been purchased, and the title had been transferred to the newly registered, Horizon Zambia, an official NGO in Zambia.

It really is true that we can accomplish more with God in one hour than in a lifetime without him.
