KUYASA KIDS CHOIR

The Kuyasa Kids is Horizon's acclaimed choir and dance team from Kayamandi Township near the city of Stellenbosch, Western Cape Province, South Africa. Kayamandi is home to 28,000 members of South Africa's Xhosa tribe.

"Kuyasa" is a Xhosa word that means "sun rising." Through the singing and dancing of the Kuyasa Kids, hope is being generated for thousands of other children and youth who have become orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

Shadow Proves the Sunshine and Kuyasa Kids CD

Kuyasa Kids inspired Switchfoot’s Shadow Proves the Sunshine on its new album Nothing is Sound). When Switchfoot went to Kayamandi to see the Kuyasa Kids, the band was moved to start Lowercase People, publishing a quarterly online magazine for music, arts, and social justice. Switchfoot also produced the "Kuyasa Kids: Live in Kayamandi" CD, which is sold out.
